The body of a woman in her 60s was found at approximately noon in a residence on Beaumont Circle in Yonkers at approximately noon on Monday, Jan. 13, police said.

Upon arrival, officers made entry into an apartment and found an unresponsive woman with stab wounds on the floor.

According to police, a suspect - later identified as 63-year-old James Hilliard - was detained outside.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Empress Emergency Medical Services.

Police said that the investigation determined that Hilliard's victim was stabbed multiple times in her torso and neck, leading to her death.

Hilliard, who also lives on Beaumont Circle, was familiar with his victim. The two allegedly engaged in a dispute that escalated into physical violence.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced that Hilliard had been arraigned and charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Following his arraignment, Hilliard was remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
